Education: NOVA Part 2

Finding my way back out of the underwater showroom into day light, I followed the arrows on the ground further. Not far away a board gives information about a Laurel Hill Farm from late 1790 and its virtual reconstruction.

Climbing up a little hill you will reach the rebuild.

Being there you will see a very detailed virtual reconstruction plus boards giving you background information about the farm.

Back on the pathway after a short walk another reconstruction is to be visited. This time it is a trade center.

I looked around to find a hint to what area this should belong to but could not find any information about it, but I guess it belongs to the Cyprus project which is coming next.

After a longer walk along a shore I reached the next place of interest and this time about an archaeological project in the region of Pyla, Cyprus. The name of the project is
"Pyla-Koutsoperia Archaeological Project". Again boards provide information about the project.

To the left of the first boards you can see a model of an Early Christian Basilica

The replica of the ruins in the back of the basilica do not really tell what they have been good for.

A bridge will bring  you across the water and from Cyprus into the jungle. Don't worry about the aligator at the other end of the bridge, he is fed up and lazy and just welcomed you by opening an eye.

Wherever you are in this moment, it will not tell you right away. You have to walk through the village of wood an straw shacks, up a little hill and up a few stairs of a temple ruin to get the wanted information.
And on the top of the ruin you will be informed about the old temple, which is located somewhere nearby Belize (former British Honduras/Central America).

Having an URL Giver in the information board with the shown Web address, would be much more serviceable for the interested visitor, then the print on the board.
More information about the Mayan Culture is been given in the back of the temple ruin when following the arrow on the ground.

When being on the bridge have a look to your left, otherwise you miss the stone engravings.

At the end of the bridge you reach  a circle settlement of the "Late Woodland Area". Hmmm ?

One more bridge after the "Late Woodland Area" and I am back to the starting point of my journey.
On most of the showcases, it is quite informative what one can see and one starts to get interested in getting more information using web sources. But especially on the last spot "Late Woodland Area", at least I had no idea, what it is all about but a settlement.
Anyway, looking at the map I see 4 more regions to explore and "yay" there is a region called "Werowocomoco" (got a knot in my fingers, typing this) and in the center it says "Late Woodland Culture". I bet here I will get my answers on the just said.

See you there, for the next expedition.

Interview: Camryn Darkstone

Camryn Darkstone is a builder on the Littlefield Grid and known for her fantastic Art Deco buildings. Good reason for the "Hyperzette" to conduct an interview with the creator. She is going to tell us a little background about her desire to create in open sim.

Hyperzette:
Can you tell a bit about your beginnings ?

Camryn:
I have been involved in virtual worlds since 2006. One of the things I love about virtual worlds is admiring the creativity of other people. In the early days in SL I was especially inspired by the work of Baron Grayson, Gospel Voom, Abel Dreamscape and other great builders, as well as artists like Lilith Heart, Alex Bader and Kriss Lehmann. Their work enriched my life so much, and I admired them immensely.
I had done quite a bit of landscaping in SL but I started building in earnest once I met Walter Balazic. I have no training in art, architecture or design, but he encouraged me to build a replica of Frank Lloyd Wright's famous house, Fallingwater, a landmark of American architecture. I had never built anything of that size or significance before. I learned so much about architecture from tracing Wright's work and seeking to understand his perspective. Visitors enjoyed the house, which can be seen today on Littlefield Grid, on the "Mill Run" region.

Hyperzette:
How and what happened, when you changed to Opensim?

Camryn:
When Walter decided to create Littlefield Grid, and brought our family to Opensim, I began building in high gear--we had a whole world to build, from the ground up! I have been building non-stop for the whole four years we have been in Opensim. I created all the buildings on the main public regions of Littlefield Grid; I have developed about 20 regions so far. For each new project, I immerse myself in learning about a style of architecture, whether it is Streamline Moderne, Art Deco, Minimalism, Bauhaus, Victorian, Roman, Chinese or Brutalism. I study photos and read about the style, then try to interpret it in a way that makes sense for the virtual world.

Hyperzette:
What did you drove your creator-skills to these buildings and specially for Art Deco?

Camryn:
Why Art Deco? Art Deco and Streamline Moderne are Walter's favorite styles of architecture, so those buildings are a gift from me for his pleasure.
In addition to architecture and building, I enjoy music and fashion. I'm a retired professional musician in RL and currently work in the fashion industry.

Hyperzette:
What's going to be your next project?

Camryn:
My next project will be... whatever Littlefield Grid needs! I'm not setting out to create art; I am more of an engineer than an architect. I am creating the spaces to be the theater for the friendships and relationships that are the lifeblood of our grid. For me, the mark of success is when people enjoy using the places I have created.
I gave a short retrospective of my learning experience at

Hyperzette:
Thank You very much for answering the question.

Camryn:
Thanks for asking

Destination: Phaze-Dragons Part 1

When you come to "Outworldz" Grid these days and not having it visited for a longer time, you will see that it has changed quite a bit. Now you will arrive in a cupola with the upper half made of steel and glass on top of a needle rock.

On the brick walls build as basement for the dome, one can see pictures of Virunga,

Frankie

and one, the "Hyperzette" has not reviewed yet, Dragon.

Two other pictures will be of interest in the future, Sunja and Oars.

For this visit I was interested in the region "Phaze Dragons" another fabulous work by Debbie Edwards and Fred Beckhusen.
To get there just click on the picture. Same procedure with the other destinations. A short particle rain hit my Avatar and off it went, finding myself in front of a small house on top of a mountain in a snowy region.

A little green dragon eyeballs me suspiciously. Every so often he starts flying around my shoulders, rests for a sec and circles me again. In a distance I can see a harpy flying her circles and a bigger dragon shows up in the air every so often.

My first decision was to get into the house to see what to find there.
Not much but a flickering fire in an open chimney, other then that, the rooms are empty.

During all this investigation tour the little green dragon, whose name is Itsy, followed me around, hovering in the back of my shoulders. Being outside again I saw a tiny building with a swirling circle in it which gives a free gift when touched.

In front of me on the way to a wooden bridge are two spheres, which invite to be touched. And I couldn't resist. But even so I tried it a few times and waited for some time..........nothing happened.
I am quite sure they are good for something.
So I crossed the bridge towards a not so friendly looking Velociraptor, Hoping he was in a good mood. Coming closer I discovered a saddle on the back of the reptile. Should I or shouldn't I. Tossing a coin and I decided to give it a try jumping on the back and wow, the Raptor stayed calm and friendly and easy to handle.

We, the Raptor, Itsy and me, continued our journey. A cave caught my interest and we rode in this direction, entered it and after a short way we've been in a hall. Time to send the raptor back cause  the ceiling is quite low and the hall itself did not look that peaceful. Reason for that, was a big Balrog hovering above a fountain filled with hot red and orange shimmering lava.

Out of the tails of my eyes I scanned the cave the good I could do and saw some eggs laying on the ground as well as two baby dragons playing under the cave's ceiling. Another green creature just crawled out of an green egg to my left.
And Itsy did not give up observing the scenery from behind my back.

In the back of the cave I found a kettle full of lava. Two eggs swimming in it. I touched one and it gave the info :"Oh, so now you want this egg! Okay! Put your egg in the lava pit so it can be seasoned." Well nice info but I do not have an egg, I could set there, and the one I touched is already swimming in the lava.

Without any idea what to do, I left the cave to get to a nearby house, I have seen before I entered the cave.Three bridges later I stood in front of it but the doors were locked.

So I continued my way on the small path between the rocks and arrived at another house but this time Itsy and me got some bad (?) company....

To be continued.......
